Classic Method Pastel Portraits with Chris Obers
Saturday/Sunday, March 7-8, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
In this workshop we will use an old-world technique that was practiced during the Renaissance by artists like Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo. Beginning with a toned paper, for the middle value, white is used for the highlights. Sanguine, (red/brown) is used for the dark values. In this class we will start and complete a piece that will be suitable for framing. Class size is limited to 8 participants to allow for plenty of one on one instruction. Artists are required to bring their own art supplies.
Photo reference will be provided. If you wish to use your own photo reference please contact me prior to the workshop. If you have any questions I can be reached at email@example.com . Please leave a voicemail with your phone number. I look forward to this opportunity to have fun creating art with you!

No excuses! Developing a Drawing Habit
Saturday, April 4, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with 1-hr. lunch
Daily practice, the more you do it the better you get. We’ve all heard this over and over but how do you fit drawing into an already crazy schedule? In this one-day workshop. We will explore ways to play with the most basic of drawing tools, things we all have, pens, pencils and scraps of paper.
What we’ll work on…
How to shade with a ball point pen, how to create the illusion of depth, crosshatching, sketching from life, sketching from memory, doodles, geometric patterns, creating textures such as a basket weave, braids, wood grain, hair and fur. We will practice drawing eyes, hands, shoes, fingernails, lips, coffee cups, pencils, spoons and just about anything that is around us. Playfully scribble and discover hidden images within the scribbled lines.
No art supplies required. This class is all about having fun and learning techniques that can form a daily practice. Things you can do while on the phone, waiting for your order, sitting in a staff meeting, waiting for an appointment…. All skill levels welcome. Simply bring a willingness to experiment and a desire to improve your drawing skills. Class limited to 10 participants. Registration $50.
