Introduction to Graphite Drawing with Chris Obers

Saturday, June 4, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This is a favorite medium for me. All you need is a pencil and paper. With a small sketchbook you can draw and sketch almost anywhere. In comparison with other mediums, graphite is not messy. There is no mixing of paints, or the use of unhealthy solvents. Graphite is an inexpensive way to create artwork. Since you can create a variety of shades of grey, it’s a great way to learn values. It also helps to develop drawing skills and quickly express ideas and concepts. Drawing with graphite is considered the foundation of all art. At traditional art schools, it’s the first medium students must master.

In this 3-hour workshop, we will cover the following:

  • Hard vs soft graphite, and how each is used in a drawing
  • Different papers and how they interact with graphite
  • Different kinds of graphite medium, – powdered, water soluble, sticks
  • Techniques

Bring paper, and a HB pencil, (optional, 6H or 8H pencil, 6B or 8B pencil, kneadable eraser, hi polymer eraser) If you have questions, please email me at chrisobers@gmail.com
