TBA: Lady in a Bow Tie
Karolina Syrovatkova, an award-winning child actress from Czechoslovakia, and concert pianist has merged her talents to create dramatized musical concerts focused on the lives of women who were trailblazers in their field but often overshadowed by the men and events in their lives. As a prelude to our celebration of the 19th Amendment (Women’s Suffrage), Karolina will return, performing her “Lady in a Bow Tie” which is about Vitezslava Kapralova, a composer and conductor who died in 1940 at age 25 ”on the cusp of greatness.”
September 12: Chris and Sandra Bengochea
Professor Sandra Bengochea is a current addition to the San José State University Department of Voice. Soprano, Professor Bengochea has earned rave reviews for her spirited interpretations of the lyric coloratura repertoire. Christopher Bengochea, Tenor, has been praised as having “power, sure intonation, and fine diction that come in a package tied with a ribbon of natural sound.” He has delighted audiences with his unique combination of vocal and dramatic interpretations in performances ranging from art song to opera around the world. Together they bring a high level of excellence, personality, and entertainment to our September cabaret. A little opera, a little Broadway, a little pop. Chris says the idea is to have fun – no “snooty nose in the air” when he’s on stage.
November 7: The Rykert Trio
Joe Rykert was a lead singer with Townsend Opera for many years. Son, Joseph, often tours internationally with Jeremy Stolle in their Broadway based show, The Unreachable Stars. Their show is an eclectic blend of contemporary and inspirational music.
