Mistlin Gallery is the downtown Modesto space run by Central California Art Association, a non-profit organization that provides a venue for regional artists to show and sell art, for the community to take art classes and participate in the local arts scene. We teach art in local schools and provide a space for cancer patients and survivors to participate in art therapy. We depend on donations to provide these services and keep our doors open.
Our current hours are 11:30 – 5:00 on Tuesday through Friday, and noon to 4:00 on Saturdays. Masks are required.

Central California Art Association is an organization of volunteers and artists working together to promote the visual arts. CCAA was established in 1952 by a small group of artists committed to supporting the arts in our community. Our 501(c)3 non-profit organization is a cooperative and growing membership of artists and art lovers, with a 9 member Board of Directors who provide corporate supervision. To become a member artist, or a member at large, visit our membership page, or visit the gallery to pick up your membership application.
CCAA’s exhibition space and education center, The Mistlin Gallery, is located at 1015 J Street on the first floor of the City/County Building in Downtown Modesto where you can enjoy validated parking and handicap accessibility.
Our Mission: “Given that art is a cornerstone of our culture, the mission of the Central California Art Association is to support and promote artists and artistic activities of all forms, styles, and subject matter that provide cultural opportunities to members of our community. Through education, exhibition, financial support, and the recognition of artistic excellence we will endeavor to create a vibrant cultural core for the people of Stanislaus County and the surrounding region. In doing so, CCAA is committed to championing policies and practices of racial and cultural equity that empower a just and inclusive community.”
The Central California Art Association sponsors 10 exhibits in the gallery each year that are free to the public. These include member-only shows, the annual Young@Art student exhibition, and an exhibit of work from Memorial Medical Center’s Complementary Art Therapy classes.
An important part of the mission of CCAA is to provide visual art education to children and adults. A wide variety of classes are held at the gallery’s Edna Mellis Education Center including afternoon, evening, weekend and summer programs. CCAA also offers a teaching artist program, CLASS, which contracts with elementary schools to provide art lessons in K – 6 classrooms throughout the county.
The Mistlin Gallery Gift Shop showcases a wonderful collection of pieces made by local artisans: jewelry, pottery, fiber art, prints and other small works that are ideal for your gift giving needs.
The CCAA reaches out to the community as a non-profit organization to assist and enrich the artistic lives and culture of our community. We join with performing arts and other groups in our area to expand our mission of awareness and educate on the value and importance of the arts.
